Universal Announcement will boost local economy says Milton Keynes Chamber of Commerce
Following last week’s announcement that a landmark development in the UK leisure and tourism sector is to be built in neighbouring County Bedfordshire, the Milton Keynes Chamber of Commerce is backing the plans which will boost the region’s economy.
Universal Studios confirmed plans to open its first European theme park just outside Bedford creating new jobs and a boost to Bedfordshire and surrounding counties. Set across a 476-acre site, the world-renowned entertainment giant aims to bring blockbuster-themed attractions to the region, including experiences inspired by James Bond, Paddington, and The Lord of the Rings. The park is set to open in 2031, with construction beginning in the near future.
This ambitious project promises to deliver a fully immersive theme park experience, combining innovative rides with carefully crafted storytelling, atmospheric design, and thoughtfully planned landscapes. From the number of loops on a rollercoaster to the positioning of trees that enhance themed areas, no detail is left to chance. The new UK park is expected to follow Universal’s tradition of themed zones connected by iconic landmarks and cleverly designed pathways to manage crowd flow and optimise guest experience.
The arrival of a Universal theme park in this region brings exciting benefits to the area. The project is anticipated to boost the local economy through increased tourism, the creation of thousands of jobs during construction and operation, and opportunities for local businesses to supply goods and services. Additionally, the strategic location of Milton Keynes and strong transport links position it as a key beneficiary in the regional development surrounding the park.
Louise Wall, Chief Executive of the Milton Keynes Chamber of Commerce, said:
“This is a game-changing development for our region. The Universal theme park will bring significant economic growth, increase visitor numbers, and create valuable opportunities for local businesses and residents alike. We are proud to support such an inspiring and transformative project.”
“We are delighted to work collaboratively with the Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce and look forward to an exciting future supporting this venture.”
With excitement already building, Universal’s new park is poised to become a major attraction in Europe and a powerful catalyst for growth to the region.
