Healthy Weight, Nutrition, and Physical Activity. Why is it Important?
Blogs
Managing your weight contributes to good health now and as you age. The key to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight isn’t about short-term dietary changes. It’s about a lifestyle that includes healthy eating, regular physical activity, and balancing the calories you consume with the calories your body uses (CDC, 2021).
Being overweight or obese can bring physical, social, emotional and psychosocial problems, which can lead to the onset of preventable long term illness, stigma, discrimination, increased risk of hospitalisation and reduced life expectancy. This has a direct impact on the community. An overweight or obese population is less likely to be physically active, which can lead to reduced productivity. It can affect life opportunities and place an increased demand on social care, putting extra pressure on limited services and resources.
Everyone wishes to have better health and good living but our individual lifestyle choices impact our overall well-being; the determination for healthy living can prevent or even reverse chronic disease.
Health is often determined by a complex interaction between individual characteristics, lifestyle, physical and socioeconomic environment. Smoking, unhealthy diet, increased exposure to pollution of varying types, lack of physical activity/exercise, how many hours you sleep each night, the amount of stress you’re under – these are lifestyle aspects that can, and do, have a bit impact on one’s health.
Healthy Lifestyle will be appropriate for you if you are convinced you require change in your lifestyle; you are aware of a need for connection between your current health symptoms and your habits and also knowledge of not living to your full healthiness.
