Powering Progress: TEAM Energy Backs NESO’s Vision for Whole-System Innovation
TEAM Energy is proud to support the National Energy System Operator’s (NESO) newly unveiled Whole-System Innovation Strategy — a forward-thinking and collaborative blueprint aimed at fast-tracking the UK’s journey toward a cleaner, more resilient, and cost-effective energy system.
Released in July 2025, this marks NESO’s inaugural strategy since its establishment, representing a landmark moment for the energy industry. It identifies six key innovation priorities — from enhancing demand-side flexibility and harnessing artificial intelligence, to reinforcing system robustness and integrating electricity, gas, and emerging energy sources. Central to the strategy is a call for unified industry action, acknowledging that achieving net zero is a shared responsibility.
As covered in TEAM’s article, “NESO unveils first Whole-System Innovation Strategy to drive energy transformation”, the strategy complements the UK government’s Clean Power 2030 initiative and illustrates how innovation can enable a zero-carbon grid within five years. It also sets the stage for broader, long-term changes — including decarbonising heat, expanding energy storage, and adopting future-ready technologies.
Graham Paul, Service Delivery Director at TEAM Energy, shared his thoughts:
“We’re fully aligned with NESO’s strategy and its core message: collaboration is key. The energy transition requires fresh perspectives, collective expertise, and a united front. NESO’s inclusive approach — engaging over 70 stakeholders and welcoming more than 80 project proposals — sends a strong signal that the sector is ready to innovate together.”
The strategy’s focus on digital transformation, consumer engagement, and whole-system thinking mirrors TEAM’s commitment to helping UK organisations cut carbon, boost efficiency, and navigate the evolving energy landscape.
For energy professionals, NESO’s strategy offers both clarity and opportunity. Whether through smart infrastructure, AI-powered planning, or consumer-centric innovations, the message is clear, the time to innovate is now.
