The purpose of the Course:

This course is aimed at training a person to recognise the scale of the emergency, prevent loss of life and send for first aid help if necessary. The course complies with the HSE 1981 “First aid at work” legislation and is registered by the FAIB. Candidates should complete two Basic Skills updates before their 3 year expiry date.

Benefits to the organisation:

This course provides a recognised first aid qualification for employees and enables the successful candidate to call themselves an Emergency First Aider. They will be able to provide emergency help to colleague and clients and will also be registered for 7 hours of driver CPC on the JAUPT system.

Who is the course for?

This Emergency First Aid course is for all employees in a low risk environment who are expected to act as a designated first aider in the workplace. Driver CPC is for any HGV drivers who need hours for their CPC requirements.

Topics covered:

  • Role of the first aider, equipment and the need to record incident actions
  • Basic hygiene in first-aid procedures
  • Assess the situation
  • Unconscious casualty and/or seizures
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Bleeding and shock
  • Choking
  • Minor Injuries
  • First Aid for RTAs

On completion of the course candidates should be able to:

  • Understand the role of the first aider including reference to the use of available equipment and the need for recording incidents and actions
  • Understanding the importance of basic hygiene in first aid procedures
  • Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious and/or seizure
  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is bleeding, in shock, choking, minor injuries,
  • Provide first aid for RTAs
