Harry’s Rainbow Children’s Grief Awareness Week

Statistics taken in 2015 show that 100 parents died in Milton Keynes in 1 year, leaving 170 dependent children grieving. Nationally, it is estimated that 1 in 29 school children are bereaved of a parent or sibling – that is potentially 1 per school class. The statistics are startling.

Harry’s Rainbow is dedicated to supporting children bereaved of parents or siblings in the Milton Keynes and surrounding areas and we are committed to raising awareness of the support children need and also what is available to them via our charity.

Created by the Childhood Bereavement Network, and supported by bereavement organisations across the country, Children’s Grief Awareness Week is designed to raise the awareness of child bereavement across the nation. taking place during 17-23 November. We would be delighted if our supporters can get involved by Wearing a Rainbow, whether this be one bold colour, a hair band, face paint or really go all out with your rainbow socks and skirts! It’s so easy to take part and you have a whole week to get involved. Your support means so much and will make such a difference!

Organisations and schools have baked and sold cakes, asked for donations, dressed up in bright and colourful outfits, held sponsored, fun classes and events and generally had lots of laughter and smiles while supporting our brilliant cause!

Claire Banbury, Club Owner at energie Fitness Kiln Farm says “Rainbow Week is an important part of our annual calendar and members know to expect it! We’ve been supporting Harry’s Rainbow since we opened back in 2018 and this particular week long event allows us to all get colourful, creative, get local kids and adults involved and help shout about the message of Grief Awareness. We want our members and everyone in the local Community to know about the incredible work that Harry’s Rainbow do to support bereaved families and we’re very fortunate to have a charity like this in Milton Keynes to refer people to”

Would you like to be involved this year? Perhaps you could organise a sponsored event or cake sale or arrange for your team members dress down for a donation. We would love you to join us! You can make a difference…

The awareness and funds raised from this week help us to maintain the services to our beneficiaries. During 2022 we have seen an unprecedented rise in registrations to access our services, so far in 2022 we have registered 93 children as of the end of July – this is a increase of 60% on 2021 registrations.
